Most ten year olds haven’t published a book yet. About the author Kayla Kaplan? She’s already got one out there in the world. Kayla’s a regular kid in lots of ways. She goes to school every day like everyone else. When she’s not sitting in class, you’ll find her at gymnastics practice. She loves tumbling and flipping through the air. It’s one of her favorite things to do. When she’s not at the gym, she’s reading. Books are her thing. Always have been since she was little.

But Kayla also draws. All the time. She keeps a notebook with her everywhere and sketches whenever ideas pop into her head. Sometimes it’s random doodles of stuff she sees during the day. Sometimes those doodles turn into something way bigger than she planned. That’s exactly how ‘Elijah’s Magical Discovery’ happened. About the author Kayla Kaplan was only eight years old, sitting with her crayon set and just coloring for fun one afternoon. Then this wild idea hit her out of nowhere. What if crayons could actually be magical? What if they brought drawings to life right before your eyes? Her imagination went absolutely crazy with that one thought.

She started building the whole story right then. A six year old boy named Elijah who finds a mysterious crayon box became her main character. The crayons bring his drawings to life, but only when he has good intentions. A bully named Marco tries to use them for mean reasons and gets trapped in his own drawing. Miss Poppy, the art teacher, understands how the magic really works.

About the author Kayla Kaplan spent real time developing each character carefully. She figured out rules for how the magic should operate. It couldn’t just do anything random. That would be boring and make no sense. She decided the crayons only work when you’re trying to help someone or create something positive. Try using them for mean reasons, and they flip around on you. Consequences matter.

That’s pretty deep thinking for an eight year old kid. Understanding cause and effect. Building character motivation that makes sense. Creating consequences for bad actions. Most adults struggle with that stuff in their writing. By age ten, Kayla’s book was published for real. She dedicated it to her mom and dad, thanking them for teaching her about hard work and kindness. For never letting her give up on her dreams even when things got tough.

Now about the author Kayla Kaplan hopes her book makes kids smile when they read it. She wants them to dream big dreams and live colorful lives full of creativity.
